Tutorial: Download a caption file from a YouTube video

Modified on Fri, Sep 29, 2023 at 7:43 AM

Our system will support subtitles in .vtt format. You can attach the .vtt file to your uploaded video in File Manager. NOTE: This process does not work for videos in the YouTube integration, only for direct upload files.

If there is already a subtitle file for the YouTube video, you can download the subtitle file directly from YouTube. First, open YouTube Studio:

From the left menu, select Subtitles

click to open any of your videos with subtitles. Hover your mouse over the subtitle set you wish to download and click the three dots at the right edge

Select Download

Select .vtt

Once you have downloaded the .vtt file, you can upload it to your video that exists in file manager.

Log in to app.trudigital.net and click File Manager on the right. Click the video you want to add captions to, then select Add Caption

Locate the .vtt file you just downloaded and select it. The video will now play back with captions.
